Creativity a Pathway to Problem Solving

Creativity is the ability to think outside the box, taking a new path in order to produce something new and valuable to the society.
Problem solving is finding an answer or a means to deal with a mystery or something that is difficult to understand or handle.

Creativity has to do with the use of imagination in order to bring something into existence or cause something to happen. In dealing with a problem, being creative is a key so as to be outstanding in your result. A problem can be solved without the impact of creativity, one will still arrive at the same solution arrived by others. For you to get an outstanding solution to a problem, you have to apply what is called CREATIVE PROBLEM SLOVING.

Research on reasoning and logical thinking, has offered insights into how creative problem solvers effectively think and approach problems. One mark of creativity is the ability of a creative problem solver to break   out of conventional schemas when the occasion demands it and engage in divergent thinking. A creative problem solver has to be able to apply concepts from domain to another unrelated domain in a pattern that gives way to new insights. Creative people are seen as deviants, intellectual rebels because they refuse to be constrained by the norms and traditional approaches which people of the society follow and end up getting same result.

Alex Osborn and Sid Parnes in the 1940s, first developed creative problem solving together with the term "brainstorming.", they developed the Osborn-Parnes Creative Problem Solving Process. This model remains a valuable approach to problem solving.

Creative Problem Solving has four core principles
  • ·        Defer or suspend judgment
  • ·        Focus on "Yes, and," rather than "No, but
  • ·        Ask problems as questions.
  • ·        Divergent and convergent thinking must be balanced

As a creative problem solver, you are to ask yourself the following question for you to stimulate divergent thinking:
  • ·        What the problem is all about?
  • ·        What is the cause of the problem?
  • ·        What has been the effect of the problem on the society?
  • ·        What method would work?
  • ·        Are there new ways to this?
  • ·        How else could it be if modified?
  • ·        What will be the effect of the result on the society?
  • ·        Will the solution be valuable to the society?

As a creative problem solver you have to be able to explore the vision, gather date, formulate logical questions, explore new ideas, and formulate solutions before you finally come up with a plan

Creative solutions to problem sometimes is gotten through what is called insight learning, there is a sudden pop up in our mind through a flash of insight, after a temporary give up. It is as if the problem is been worked on at a subconscious level.
Often times one of the best way to creative solution is by insight learning, in insight learning new internal and external stimuli activates a different perspective to the problem.

Finally be a creative problem solver not a conventional problem solver so as to make a valuable impact in the society
